High Temperature Resistant Centrifugal Pump Installer
Why should the centrifugal pump be filled with water before starting?

2021/11/03

Before starting the centrifugal pump, it should first be filled with water to discharge the air from the pump shell. From the working principle of the centrifugal pump, when the impeller rotates, the water is thrown to the outer edge of the impeller by the centrifugal force, the vacuum is formed at the center of the impeller, and the water is sucked into, forming the continuous working process of the pump.

If the pump body is not full of water, but full of air during start-up, because the density of air is less than that of water, when the impeller rotates at the same speed, the centrifugal force produced by air will be much less than that of water, so that it will gather in the center of the impeller, so that the center of the impeller can not form enough vacuum, hinder the suction of water, and affect the formation of the continuous working process of the pump. Therefore, before starting the centrifugal pump, it must first be filled with water and clean the air in the pump body in order to maintain the normal operation of the pump.

Before starting the centrifugal pump, the pump and the intake pipe should be filled with water, otherwise the pump can not lift the water. The lack of water after the start of the centrifugal pump is often due to the fact that the air in the pump is not drained and the water is not filled.

Before starting the pump, fill the water tank with water and seal it. After the pump starts, the pump enters the water from the vacuum tank, and a certain vacuum is formed in the tank due to the drop of the water level in the tank, and the water in the tank will enter into the tank through the inlet pipe under the action of atmospheric pressure, thus forming a water cycle and starting the normal operation of the pump. This water filling method has the following advantages: small hydraulic loss, high efficiency of pumping station, low labor intensity of technicians, easy to start, and conducive to the automatic control of pump units.

There are two main water filling methods before start-up: one is to use the assembly bottom valve to fill water, and the bottom valve is an one-way valve, which is installed at the inlet of the inlet pipe. The disadvantage of this method is that the head loss of the bottom valve is large, which affects the device efficiency of the pump; the other is bottomless valve filling, which has the advantage of energy saving, which can save 10% and 15% compared with the pumping station with bottom valve.
