High Temperature Resistant Centrifugal Pump Installer
Replacing the Mechanical Seal of Fluorine-lined Alloy Centrifugal Pump

2023/07/17

Fluorine-lined alloy centrifugal pump is a common industrial pump widely used in fields such as chemical, petroleum, and pharmaceutical industries. The mechanical seal, as one of the core components of the pump, is responsible for preventing liquid leakage and ensuring the normal operation of the pump. However, due to the high-speed rotation and harsh working conditions, the mechanical seal may experience wear or leakage issues. Therefore, regular replacement of the mechanical seal is crucial to maintaining the pump's proper functioning. This article will introduce the method and steps of replacing the mechanical seal in a fluorine-lined alloy centrifugal pump.

I. Check the condition of the mechanical seal:

Before proceeding with the replacement of the mechanical seal, it is essential to inspect the existing mechanical seal's condition. By observing, listening, and measuring the leakage rate, confirm if there are any issues with leaks, wear, or damages. Additionally, check the wear of the pump shaft seal and the sealing chamber to determine whether other components need replacement simultaneously.

II. Preparations:

Before starting the replacement of the mechanical seal, ensure that the pump is completely stopped, and all liquid has been thoroughly drained. Disconnect the power source and ensure that the pump is in a safe state to prevent accidents. Prepare the necessary tools and spare mechanical seals, as well as clean lubricants.

III. Disassemble the existing mechanical seal:

Detach the pump's suction pipe and discharge pipe to ensure a complete separation between the pump and the pipeline.

Use the appropriate tools to disassemble the pump's sealing chamber and remove the existing mechanical seal. During the disassembly process, handle the shaft seal and other vulnerable components with care to avoid any damage.

Clean the remnants of the old mechanical seal and thoroughly clean the sealing chamber to ensure a proper installation of the new mechanical seal.

IV. Install the new mechanical seal:

Lubricate the new mechanical seal properly, applying a clean lubricant to its surface to ensure it is clean and smooth.

Carefully install the new mechanical seal into the sealing chamber, making sure it is positioned correctly and oriented properly. The assembly of the mechanical seal usually follows specific sequences and angles.
Using the appropriate tools and techniques, secure the mechanical seal onto the pump shaft and adjust it to the appropriate position. During this process, ensure that the mechanical seal is well-balanced and stable.
After installing the mechanical seal, double-check its position and fixation to ensure proper installation.

V. Reassemble the pump and conduct testing:

Reassemble the pump's sealing chamber and ensure that all components are tightly secured and connected.

Reconnect the pump's suction pipe and discharge pipe, ensuring a proper seal at the connection between the pipeline and the pump to avoid liquid leakage.

Reconnect the power source, start the pump, and conduct a trial run. During the trial run, closely monitor the operation of the mechanical seal to ensure there are no anomalies such as leaks or abnormal noises.

Through observation and testing, confirm that the newly installed mechanical seal is working properly and that there are no leaks or other issues.

VI. Regular maintenance:

Replacing the mechanical seal is only one aspect of pump maintenance. To ensure the long-term stable operation of the pump, regular maintenance and upkeep of the pump and its components are necessary. Regularly check lubrication, clean the sealing chamber, and replace lubricants to prolong the mechanical seal's lifespan and reduce the risk of leakage.

 Fluorine-lined Alloy Centrifugal Pump

Replacing the mechanical seal in a fluorine-lined alloy centrifugal pump is a crucial step in ensuring the pump's proper functioning. By conducting a thorough inspection, careful disassembly, proper installation, and testing, the mechanical seal can be accurately replaced and demonstrate excellent performance. Regular maintenance is also essential to prolonging the mechanical seal's lifespan and ensuring the long-term efficient transport of liquids in fluorine-lined alloy centrifugal pumps, thereby contributing to industrial production and various societal applications.
